How to Get from Seoul Station to Goyang Stadium

There are two ways to think about getting from Seoul Station (서울역) to Goyang Stadium (고양종합운동장). On a normal day, Subway Line 3 to Daehwa Station (대화역), then a 10-minute walk from Exit 3, is easiest. On a concert day, Daehwa Station gets very crowded around entry and exit, so taking GTX-A to KINTEX Station (킨텍스역) and then the event shuttle can be faster and skips the queue.

The point is not to pick the closest station, but the route that avoids the crush.

The Two Routes#

By transit card, the Daehwa route is about 1,650 won. For the GTX-A route, the fare is 4,200 won between Seoul Station and KINTEX Station (based on a weekday single-use transit card; basic fare starts at 3,300 won. Check detailed fares on the official GTX-A website). You trade a little more money for less time and less crowding, plus the shuttle fare.

Default Route: Line 3 to Daehwa#

Daehwa Station is the closest rail point to the stadium and the Line 3 terminus, so coming from Seoul you are more likely to get a seat. Seoul Station has no Line 3, though, so you transfer once.

1. From Seoul Station, take Line 4 and transfer to Line 3 at Chungmuro (충무로). You can also take Line 1 and transfer at Jongno 3-ga (종로3가).
2. Ride toward Daehwa and get off at the last stop, Daehwa Station.
3. Leave through Exit 3 and walk about 10 minutes.

Per the Goyang City Management Corporation, the route runs from Daehwa Station Exit 3, across the crosswalk, toward the East Gate. The nearest gate depends on your seat, so check the gate number on your ticket first.

Faster on Concert Days: GTX-A and the Shuttle#

GTX-A takes you from Seoul Station to KINTEX Station in about 17 minutes. KINTEX Station opened on December 28, 2024 and is now the fastest rail link from Seoul toward Ilsan.

From KINTEX Station, use the event shuttle laid on for the show. At past large concerts, a temporary loop bus ran between KINTEX Station and Goyang Stadium about every 3 to 4 minutes, at 1,650 won by transit card. That was one event’s arrangement, though, so confirm whether it runs, along with the times and boarding point, through the show’s organizer and the Goyang City notice.

If there is no shuttle or the line is long, you have two fallbacks.

• Walk from KINTEX Station to the stadium, about 1.8km or 25 minutes. Only for those comfortable on foot.
• Transfer to a regular bus near KINTEX Station heading toward the stadium and Ilsanseo-gu Office.

Bus Detours: Sungnyemun Bus 1000 and Yeongdeungpo Station Routes#

If Subway Line 3 is heavily delayed or crowded, buses offer a practical bypass. You can take Bus 1000 from Sungnyemun near Seoul Station, or travel via Yeongdeungpo Station to catch a bus to Daehwa Station.

Option 1: Bus 1000 from Sungnyemun#

Walk from Seoul Station to the Sungnyemun (숭례문) stop and board Bus 1000 toward Daehwa-dong.

• Upside: No subway transfers, and the last bus from Sungnyemun runs late — around 1:05 AM on weekdays, 12:40 AM on Saturdays, and midnight on holidays. Buses run frequently (every 3 to 10 minutes on weekdays).
• When to use: Ideal when Line 3 is congested or when returning late at night.

Option 2: Bus 1500 or 9707 via Yeongdeungpo Station#

Take Subway Line 1 from Seoul Station to Yeongdeungpo Station (영등포역, approx. 10 minutes), then walk to the bus stop in front of Times Square (opposite Shinsegae Department Store). From there, board Bus 1500 or Bus 9707 and get off at Daehwa Station (대화역).

• Upside: Since Yeongdeungpo is close to the starting point of these routes, you have a much higher chance of securing a seat.
• When to use: Best when Line 3 routes are overwhelmed and you prefer to sit down by starting from a less crowded transit hub.

Option 3: Gyeongui-Jungang Line Rail Detour#

Board the Gyeongui-Jungang Line at Seoul Station (Note: check the schedule beforehand as intervals can be very long) or take Line 1/AREX to Hongdae Area or Gongdeok Station and transfer to the Gyeongui-Jungang Line bound for Munsan. Alight at Daegok Station (대곡역) and transfer to Line 3, or get off at Ilsan Station (일산역) and catch a local bus to the stadium.

• When to use: Best when Line 3 is congested or experiencing delays, and you want an alternative rail route that is unaffected by road traffic.

For these options, walk about 10 minutes from Daehwa Station to reach Goyang Stadium. Buses are subject to traffic jams on the Jayu-ro (자유로) and Gangbyeonbuk-ro (강변북로), so the subway remains a safer choice when close to showtime.

When to Leave#

Aim to arrive 30 to 60 minutes before entry opens, not before showtime. At large concerts, the ticket booth has opened 5 hours before and entry 3 hours before the show. Leave room for security screening, restrooms, bag storage, and finding your gate.

Trains toward Daehwa fill up from about two hours before showtime, so leave a little earlier if you want a seat.

Skip the Car#

On concert days, parking inside the stadium has been restricted, with only exception vehicles such as registered disability cars allowed. General facility notices list an underground VIP lot and the Daehwa Station public lot, but neither is guaranteed on a show day. Plan around public transit.

Coming as a Group#

If you travel together, the key is to avoid everyone piling onto the same train or shuttle.

• Split into groups of 30 to 50 and stagger departures 10 to 15 minutes apart.
• Above 100 people, mix in some chartered buses so one line’s delay does not push the whole group past entry.
• For chartered buses, aim to arrive 90 to 120 minutes before showtime, and get the organizer’s group-bus drop-off and turnaround points in advance.
• Split the return the same way, leaving in staggered groups.

Heading Back to Seoul#
